About Singapore
Located right in the heart of Asia, Singapore thrives as an international financial and trading hub. Its reputed efficiency, skilled workforce, strong trade agreements, excellent infrastructure, extensive and high-growth networking base make Singapore a compelling destination for business and conventions. Looking further beneath Singapore’s business legacy and you will find a rich social fabric that is vibrant, colourful and unique in many ways.

Singapore is a city of contrast. It is East and West. It is where the ideas of the future mingle with the ways of tradition. Where one can enjoy breakfast with orangutans at the famed Singapore Zoo, another can groove to a different beat in the company of party animals.

Travel to Singapore
Depending on your country of departure, there are various modes of available transportation for you to enter into Singapore.

Visa and Entry Facilities
Most foreigners coming into Singapore do not require visas for entry apart from visitors from China and India and may be given up to 30-day social visit passes upon their arrival in Singapore. However, It is best to consult your local consular office for the latest information with regards to coming into Singapore.

If you would like to stay in Singapore for a longer period, you may apply at the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) upon your arrival. However, you should have your valid passports, onward or return tickets, onward facilities (such as visas or entry permits) to your next destination and of course, sufficient funds for your stay in Singapore.

Should you lose your passport while in Singapore, please make a police report immediately, then head to the ICA (right across from the Lavender MRT Station at 10 Kallang Road) to get a temporary visa. Finally, inform your respective embassy so that you can get through immigration when you reach home.

For more information regarding visa requirements and necessary application forms, please visit www.ica.gov.sg.

Passport Validity
Do ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months before arriving in Singapore.

Weather
Singapore is known for its hot and humid weather, with little variation throughout the year. The average daytime temperature is 31°C (88°F), dropping to around 24°C (75°F) in the evenings. The monsoon season can bear down pretty heavily on our tropical weather from November onwards, so be prepared for rain on a daily basis during this period.

Time Difference
Singapore time is 8 hours ahead of GMT.

Money Matters
The currency used in Singapore is the Singapore dollar (S$). Money changing services can be found not only at the Singapore Changi Airport but also most shopping centres and hotels around the island. You can also access the automated teller machines (ATMs) located everywhere in Singapore, that accept main credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

Electricity
Singapore voltage is 220-240 volts AC, 50 cycles per second. On request, most hotels will provide transformers to visitors with electrical appliances of a different voltage, such as 110-120 volts, 60 cycles per second. When shopping for electrical appliances, do remember to check the voltage of the item against the acceptable voltage in your home country. The power plugs used in Singapore are of the three-pin, square-shaped type.
